Mice, Deer, and Other Prey Empty
PostSubject: Mice, Deer, and Other Prey Mice, Deer, and Other Prey Icon_minitimeMarch 15th 2013, 09:22

Her delicate, pale white paws softly beat across the ground rhythmically as Nyx ran. Her long legs took leaping bounds, stretching out her aching muscles. The young fae didn’t care where she was, letting her nose decide where she went. A small grumble in her stomach made her pause, smelling the air for the scent of prey. The very beginning occurrence of Spring had prey coming out from their dens, searching for food and less unaware. Nyx, being smaller, couldn’t take a full dear down herself. In the winter, smaller creatures were the ones she preyed on. During her short time as a loner, Nyx stole prey from other creatures, eating and running before the owner of the prey could find her. Her pale, deathly white fur stood out as the landscape became more green. Spring meant rain, one of Nyx’s most loved times. The thrills of the storms were incomparable.

Lifting her small muzzle into the air, the scent of a hare laced her nostrils. Silently, the young fae ran to where the hare would be. A movement out of the corner of her amber eye caught her attention. Stopping abruptly, she turned her heterochromatic eyes to the small hare only a matter of feet away. Nyx was downwind of the small creature, giving her an advantage. Crouching low, the alabaster fae crept silently towards her chosen prey. Nyx wasn’t the greatest hunter, having not been trained properly in her last pack. All she had learned was fighting, for she had been the assassin of her last pack. Her fighting skills weren’t well either, given that she had watched the other warriors train and practiced on smaller animals. She had had to face battles, and she did fairly well in them. Nyx’s wit and sharp mind kept her opponents on her toes, that and her ever-going energy. Being an apprentice, she had yet to find a mentor to teach her the ways of a warrior.

Creeping silently, her stomach brushed the ground. Nyx had sinful eyes, the left being a sapphire blue, while the right was a fiery amber. Both eyes were trained on nothing but the small hare she wished to make her next meal. All of the sudden, the wind currents changed direction. Her scent was now completely known to the hare. Nyx winced as the hare froze, smelling the air before taking off at a bullet-like speed. The young, pale white fae followed after instantly at almost and equal pace. Her paws moved across the ground so quickly that her body look like an alabaster flash. Unlike her earlier leisurely pace before, Nyx was now running with a purpose. She hadn’t caught a decent meal in a few days, relying on tiny creatures she could scrabble up. Her ribs could be seen under her pale pelt, not much muscle on her small frame. Not realizing where the hare was going, Nyx was completely unaware as is jumped under a shrub and hiding into its burrow. Running into the shrub, the young fae knew her prey was lost. Sighing, she detached her small frame from the shrub. Nyx turned away, jogging gracefully in search of other prey.

The light from the break in the clouds shown down on the green plain. The air was warm with the hints of a the storms that come with Spring. The wind was light a breezy. A nice breeze as every animal grew aware that it was mating time. One of the suns beams hit a dark russet coat of a fae lighting her coat on fire. The fire like colors danced around her muzzle, eyes, back, and sides. The she wolf wove in and out light. She was low to the ground. Her eyes were flicking every which way. She was following the scent trail of younger fae. The she wold was of a small stature smaller than normal. But her muscles flowed underneath her russet coat.

War grew nearer to the scent. Suddenly she saw the fae ahead of her. The wolfs coat was pure white. She was young but had her own muscles. War stopped for the wolf had turned towards her after the hare she had been chasing got away. War let her tongue lol out in a friendly wolf smile. Her body showed no submission nor aggressiveness. The wolf was younger than her but she showed no dominance either. War did not really care about positions but knew when to watch herself. This apprentice did not seem aggressive right now. War tilted her head and gazed undisturbed at the other fae. "Hello fae. Am I interupting?" She asked just in case.

Spring. Flowers. Faes. Brutes. Fights. Aggression. Anger. Heat. All of these things flushed around the Beta's head. He could barely think straight. He snarled about in his den, lying there, thinking and planning as he did in his spare time. Thoughts of Kenai and their interaction flooded his mind for the moment, wishing he had killed the little fool right then and there. The Elite was undeserving of his rank and needed a reality check something fierce. Anger flowed through his blood, mixing and blending with the cells themselves. Perhaps it was the season that made him angrier than ever. Closed lids opened, revealing the silver, almost lifeless hues towards the pack. Faes. There were tons of them in this pack. Some seemed to be closer to a brute, but with his rank and stature he could surely get any fae he wanted. But which did he enjoy? Which fae gave him that funny feeling all the love-struck fools had spoken about? None. There was one fae which spiked a strange feeling, but it was not one he had ever heard or felt before. Steele looked over them, thinking to himself "weakling, lame, horrid, weak, boring". Once he grew tired of looking at the faes, he left his den, open and free.

With the snow now melted away, he would have the prime opportunity to hunt for larger prey. His stomach roared within his gut, alerting him of the dire need to feed. This last winter, he had consumed too much foul and rodents. It angered him, making him thirst for the taste of larger game. As he made his way to the Grazing Plains, he scanned the area around him, making sure there were no unwanted guests. When he was finally within the land of the plains, he could see a white wolf running very quickly. Immediately he thought the wolf was his Alpha and a loud snarl escaped from his jowls. But when he watched the wolf fail after chasing a small hare, the snarling stopped and a small laugh almost replaced it. This creature was definitely not his Alpha. When he watched it back from the hole, he stepped forward, moving towards the other. Being downwind from the ivory pelt before him, he knew it was a fae before his eyes could tell him. She was younger than the ones he had met already, which would explain her lack of hunting abilities.

He did not speak, only waited for her to acknowledge him, but before he could another wolf was in the area and seeking her attention. Slate colored eyes looked to the new wolf. Her fur was a russet color, mixes of browns and tans with what looked like sparkles or splashes of black. Steele would have known she was there, had he not been so focused on the failing fae. When he decided to speak, it would interrupt their little whatever they wanted to call it. "I haven't seen a wolf fail that hard in a very long time. Did you just start hunting yesterday?" he asked. His eyes full of wonder and curiosity. What wolf had allowed this fae entrance into the land? The wolf that accepted her must have been a weakling themselves, or were blinded by her unique eyes. When he looked into the ivory wolf's eyes, it brought him back many years ago. There was a wolf with the same eye colors in his old pack. He remembered the fool to be a blundering idiot with a temper, one you would not wish to activate. Hazily his eyes started to gloss over, but before he would tune out the world, he shook his head and looked to both faes. His eyes focused on the brown fae, "what brings you here?" It was only then that he realized he did not even know the rank of either of these faes. "What rank are you?" he asked them both as his head panned between them.

Nyx was focused on finding a meal, her stomach roaring at her in hunger. Continuing her graceful jog, the young fae almost didn't notice the brown fae. Stopping dead in her tracks, she gazed at the fae with her heterochromatic eyes. The sapphire eye had a bright glint, while the amber one seemed to swirl as if it were fire. Nyx had just arrived to this pack, so she hardly knew anyone. Gazing at the brown fae with her sinful eyes, she took in the appearance. She didn't seem to pose a threat to the ivory fae, and her pelt was an extravagant array of colors. Starting with light brown and ending in black. Nyx would've loved to have a pelt like that, but she enjoyed her pale fur more. When the brown fae began to talk, Nyx looked at her with a level gaze. Sunlight came from behind darker clouds, making her alabaster fur practically glow. Nyx took no notice of it, not really caring what she looked like at all. Her different colored eyes pierced the brown fae, ivory ears flicked forward to listen. When the other wolf finished speaking, Nyx bowed her head to the other fae in greeting. "No, you haven't interrupted anything. Unless you count my failure to hunting as something. If I may ask, could I have your name?" If one didn't know Nyx properly, they would soon learn she spoke her mind and never lied. She never knew why others would hide what they were thinking to others unless it was absolutely necessary, so Nyx said what she wanted and if they didn't like it they could just not listen.

As Nyx began to relax slightly, another scent assailed her nose. It was male, and the scent was soon followed by a wraith-like brute. His onyx pelt contrasted with his slate grey eyes. The male seemed to carry himself with an air of dominance, a trait she wished she had. Just by looking at the male, you could tell he was of a higher rank. Unlike Nyx, his ribs didn't show and he was larger than her small frame. After taking in his appearance, she immediately looked down in respect for the male. There was absolutely no way he was an apprentice like her, and he might not take to being looked at directly well. Keeping her amber and sapphire gaze to the ground, she listened to the dark male speak. At his offending comment, Nyx almost growled. He didn't know that she had never had the proper training of a pack wolf, so Nyx didn't take the comment to heart. Getting the feeling that the wraith-like male wasn't finished speaking, she kept her unique eyes on the ground as thoughts flashed through her mind. Memories, blood, betrayal, death, so much death.

The dark male's voice broke her out of her reverie, asking what rank they were. Speaking up first, she answered is earlier question as well. "No, I did not just start hunting yesterday. I had to teach myself. If I had known I was going to have an audience during my hunting, maybe I would've acted like I had some sense of training. I am an apprentice, and by the way you carry yourself you are obviously of a high rank. Are my suspicions correct?" The musical lilt of her voice was smooth, flowing out of her muzzle with ease. She didn't dare give either of them her name, for if she had to run they wouldn't know who she was until she was long gone. If they meant no harm, they would give their names first. Since they both were obviously of a higher rank, she had to wait for them to show she meant no harm. Nyx probably couldn't lay a paw on either of the wolves, and they must know it. Keeping her gaze to the ground, the ivory fae waited for either of them to speak.

War had cleaned her pelt before she had come but before the small wolf spoke she had smelled some left over blood on her back. She turned her head and licked. The tangy taste was not new to her tongue. It actually gave her satisfaction that she had risen from the bottom. Her eyes closed as she remembered her first win and kill. The brute had stepped into her clearing and had waited until she had come back from the hunt. She had killed a fea hares when she had smelled his scent. War had been younger than three years. She could not remember if it was one year but she knew the memory. She licked her jowls remembering the taste of blood filling her mouth. Her ears twitched as she remembered the sound of bones crunching. She licked her jowls again in relish. The fight had been a good one for they had been easily matched until she had gotten a good grip on his leg. Then she had broken it and let him up to go. But the brute had made the mistake of coming at her when her back was turned. That was an unfair leap and she had killed him. From then on she had begun to win more and more battles. War had risen quickly until sue had fought and beaten every wolf in that forest. Of course she had not found her mother. War wanted to find her mother so she could kill her but that could always wait.

War jerked her head up and eyed the brute who had come closer. She had smelled him but did not think he would actually approach. She wondered at that as well. They were two faes and its was getting that season. Spring was in the air and the snow was melting. The sun was shining and War admitted to herself that the small white wolf had a pretty alabaster coat especially with the sun lighting it up. But War liked her own coat as well. Her own stormy grey eyes took in the stature of dominance in the brute and the dark onyx pelt. She admired his pelt a little then noticed his eyes were a slate grey which was different the. Hers. She then curiously stared at the small white faes eyes as well. She had two different color eyes. They were quite cool in War's perspective.

War tilted her head to the side studying the other wolf. Like the meeting with Esmerelda War simply lowered her tail to be underneath the others tail height and her eyes hinted at respect of rank but nothing else. She held no respect for any wolf unless the wolf had fought with her or showed something that War respected. War figured this was the beta. Interesting. The beta excluded dominance and aggression slightly hidden at the time. If the alpha was like Esmerelda said and was nice and caring about love and all then she wondered why this beta had not overthrown the alpha. War respected all Alphas in a way who kept thisr position because with wolves like the fae she first met and this brute it would be hard to hold it. For ambition ran in most wolves blood. War had her own ambitions as well but they were not to be Alpha. The first was to kill her mother and her brother Jax. But then the other? Well it was not happening yet. War focused on the brute once more. She showed nothing in her body language but interest in both wolves. "My name is War." She the looked at the sky. It looked a little stormy to her with low clouds. But War loved the rain. Especially fighting in it.

The ivory fae showed the utmost respect for him and his rank. She may not have known who he was or what rank he held in the pack, but she was respectful of him. He would possibly smile had they been alone, but this other fae was horrible. She may have not known who he was, but it was high time she discovered just who he was. "Fae, you will show proper respect to a member of high ranking in this pack. I am Beat Steele, right paw to Alpha Azul himself. What rank are you?" he snarled and bared his fangs, exposing their blood-stained nature. "Perhaps you could use a lesson or two in respect and when to offer it. Now change your stance or I will force you to the ground. Fighting back is punishable by death and I will not think twice to taking your life and watching you breathe your last breath." His body took over a very dominant stance. His ears were perked up, ready and alert. His eyes stared at her as if to kill her. His tail stayed curved over his spine and his muscles were prepared, ready to force him forward. If she wanted to fight, he would give her one, but she would not be leaving fully intact.

Keeping her different colored gaze on the ground, Nyx could still see that the other fae hadn't taken a respectful stance towards the brute. Couldn't she tell that he was of a much higher rank? Just by the way he stood, you could tell he was aggressive. If the brown fae didn't submit, Nyx had the feeling there was going to be a fight. Remembering what she learned of rank, the ivory fae knew that is there was a fight, the brown fae's actions were punishable by death. She didn't want to engage in their conversation, lest she become disrespectful in the dark male's eyes. Keeping her stance submissive, she listened as the brute spoke his harsh words to War. So he was one of the higher rankings. The way he stood, Nyx would've taken him for the Alpha. He would make a good Alpha indeed, demanding the proper respect. Nyx was slightly proud of herself for guessing correctly, taking pride in her sharp mind. Her stance never left its respectful way, all her pride was internal and not shown. As quick as a bullet, Nyx flicked her eyes up to the male named Steele. By how he looked now, she could tell her was angry. Turning her eyes immediately back to the ground, she waited to see if the brown fae would do as he asked.

Nyx's mind began to drift away from the two wolves, taking in her surroundings. This was to be her home, and it was indeed a nice place. They had a large territory, plenty for the multitude of wolves that were sure to come. Nyx guessed she was in the hunting fields, for this was where the most prey lived. She couldn't wait to explore the rest of the territory, to know the land by heart. Nyx planned on throwing all she had into her training. That is, once she found a mentor who would train her. Nyx considered going to her sister, Ember, and being trained. She knew Ember would gladly groom her to be the best she could, but the way Ember had no value for her own life left Nyx reluctant. She wanted to learn to be of the best of her abilities, not reckless and bloodlusting. Turning her thoughts back to the lands, she wondered what could lay beyond the hunting grounds.

As she thought, her ears stayed perked. She waited to hear or even see how War would react the the Beta.

Patiently he waited for the fae, but she said nothing. She did nothing. He grew angrier by the minute. Her silence was tearing at his patience. If she was not going to act now, then when would she? He was not going to sit around and wait on her, not he, a wolf of higher ranking. How he wished he could wrap his daggers around her neck, tightening his grip until he could feel blood filling his mouth. Lapping up the blood as he continued to hang on, shaking his head from side to side, tearing flesh from her body. How he wished he could. His eyes looked over her, dreaming, hoping, wishing. But he knew if he did something like that for no justifiable reason, Azul would have his pelt for that. No matter how much he disliked it, War was a member of the pack. He snarled as he made up his mind. He walked over to Nyx, looking down at her. "Rise," he said quietly, controlling the anger within his voice. "If you are up to the challenge, I will teach you how a real Warrior, to hunt and kill. Your skills are lacking and need a lot of work. Leave yourself to my paws, I will form and shape you to become something better." He looked to the fae, waiting for some form of response from her. When she stood and nodded her head, not speaking a word, he smiled at her. It was crazy that he could even do it with how angry he just was only moments ago. He looked to the fae, "you go on ahead, I will be behind you." He watched until she was no longer in sight. He looked to the fae who would not speak. Pulling back his lips, he bared his fangs at her again, showing their yellowish tint. "If I ever see you again, and you display this same kind of disrespect, I will end your life for such offense." As he finished speaking to her, he turned his back to her, heading off towards the area Nyx had just left to.
