What had become of him? To be almost known as a god to other wolves, only to sink so low and become the pile of filth he thought of himself as. Altair stood at the edge Agavos border, torn between calling out and leaving. The brute had internal conflicts more often than a pack would hunt. Sometimes he thought the loneliness as a factor to his conflicts, and on the other paw, he could be insane. He had been a loner/rogue for a while, and some days it suited him and others it didn’t. His rumbling belly was an example of why it didn’t, hunting small things could only last a wolf for so long. Altair didn’t look like a loner/rogue how ever, he had taken the time to properly groom his fur and keep up his mass. He didn’t need to be called weak, and not pack material, it was offensive in his mind. Despite his non-rogue appearance, his mind was still a jumble of many things. Things on the outside were not what they appeared on the inside, and that for him, was very true. The large brute stepped up to the edge of the border, and looked into the forest that was a complete mystery to him. These lands seemed vast, and almost virtually untouched by any stranger’s paws. The disease that had ridden his lands, it didn’t exist in any form here. It warmed his frigid heart to see that the lands so supple and beautiful, taken care of. In the distance he could hear wolves, and other animals. The main thought that stuck in his ever living mind was, would this be home? Sanctuary, was that even a word that could mean anything to him? He shook his head, his silver blue eyes shut now as he envisioned his family, his mother and father. His memories were fragile, and what fragments he did remember, he kept close to his heart. Letting out a breath, he pushed all thoughts aside and let his black claws dig into the soft earthy dirt below him. The internal conflict in his mind was still going on, and now that he had focused on that, it was intense. His urge to leave this area was strong, but his urge to find a home was stronger.

Altair shook his head, finally deciding to call out. Walk me through the woods, and sing the song of need. He thought as he tipped his head back, closing his silver blue eyes. Altair drew in a breath, his lungs filling with the fresh spring air and letting a howl rumble his vocal chords. His howl was as loud as it was deep, and emotion crept in as he let everything go. His howl ended on a soft note, and in the distance he could just barely hear it echo off the trees. His chances of being heard were high, but the thought of not being accepted didn’t make him fear as much as he thought it would. Home would be where he made it, it was the company of others that he truly craved. The black brute’s muscles tightened under his silky coat, as he waited patiently for a wolf to come see him. If i’m lucky I won’t have to wait for more than a night fall. He thought to himself, raising his head up to look at the sky that he had grown so used to gazing up at over the past year. The sky held many feelings of it’s own, blue when calm, rain when angry, storm with pain, it had everything a wolf had. Blowing out another breath, he turned his gaze back to the forest, breathing in the scent of the pack and forest. A mixture of feelings surrounded him as he looked upon the forest, and it was feelings he hadn’t witnessed in a long time. He laid down, his heavy body almost flopping on the ground as he laid. He rested his large cranium in his paws and stared forward, awaiting the time when a wolf would come visit him. Almost like the old days huh? He thought to himself, and could only chuckle at the very thought of it. Making myself laugh, how far will my mentality try to decrease? He thought and his large pink tongue rolled out of his mouth to swipe along his muzzle. What a day it had been for Altair.

PostSubject: Re: The Wandering Traveler (Desoto/Border Thread) The Wandering Traveler (Desoto/Border Thread) Icon_minitimeJuly 17th 2015, 19:25

The borders, were something he saw everyday for the past few months. He would patrol them regularly, looking for any signs of spies, wolves that wished to speak with one of the higher rank, and any possible threats. So far he had not come upon anything that could be threatening, as a matter of fact, there was barely anything at all. With his duties as being a warrior, he could not accept anyone into their lands. That job was reserved for the higher rankings. So he never actually came to see any of them or ask them any questions. But now, as Delta Male, it was his duty to answer the calls of those at the border. The new task should earn him some entertainment and bonus points if he wished to climb up the rankings. Which he did, achieving the ranking he holds now had inspired him to do so. He wasn't sure how far he could get, but as high as the Alpha allowed him to. As long as he didn't move down below Delta, he wouldn't have a problem with it. However, as one moves up in title, their responsibility also raises. And with his now higher position, the task of accepting new members fell upon his shoulders. And it just so happened that on this lovely spring day, as he was making his rounds of the borders, he spotted a male.

He was sitting outside of the borders of Agavos, seemingly debating wether or not to call. His pelt was black, but his eyes were a bright electric blue. His looks reminded him of the Beta Female of his pack, Fel. But they seemed different in their personalities from what he could see. However, the nightly pelted male did not know either of these too well, so it would be a difficult decision to make. Wether or not they were alike, or were completely different. His eyes narrowed as he stood quietly, out of the other male's view in the direction he was looking. He hadn't been spotted, which would be good if the new comer decided to turn and walk away. It was no use making an appearance to something that wouldn't matter. Despot didn't like wasting his time and communicating with those that might be nothing in the long run. Yeah, he talked to other wolves. His late night walks were already becoming more sociable than he intended. But those usually ended in a rather entertaining way. And so far he had only met a Rouge and the Delta Female of Erenyx. So not much had happened while exploring the neutrals. But before Desoto could change his mind and walk away, the brute howled. It was loud and summoning. He wished for a higher rank? Than a higher rank he shall receive. Sooner than he expected probably.

He let out a small chuckle as he walked forward, his tail lashing once before settling down to move with his forward motion. His golden orbs were amused and curious as he walked into sight. His head was held high, but not so much higher than a Lead Hunter, Warrior or such might carry it.  He wasn't that high of ranking as much as an Elite or Guardian, plus, carrying his head so high all the time might put a strain on his neck. He came to a halt a few feet in front of the other dark hued male. His eyes looking on his face as he spoke, his voice neutral but calm as he spoke. For the second time, not holding a hint of rudeness or insult in it. "You stand at the borders of Agavos, brute. You have, after some long thought, summoned one of the higher ranks of this pack. I am Delta Desoto, and how might I be of assistance? His ears faced forward, perked up for the sound of the brute's voice. There was only two things he could want; information about this land, or acceptance. The latter was more likely. After all, there was no other pack scents on him, so the Delta doubted that he was here for information. He decided to be patient today, listening throughly and skeptically to the stranger's words. After all, it would be on the line of his shoulders if the other were allowed to enter their ranks. 'Let us see what you can offer me... Tell me no lies and you and I will be just fine..'

It was different, for Altair at least, to be on the other side of the border. With his astonishing rise in rank in his old home, he had been able to patrol more freely and accepting members into the pack were something that had become a part of his daily routine. He had to think of this through the eyes of the other wolf. It wouldn’t be difficult, he had met many wolves of all shapes and sizes who had been mean, nice, shy, sad, all of which were asked the same questions. He could almost remember doing such a job as if it were yesterday, but unfortunately for him, it was not. Dwelling on memories like that made him despise many things, but all of which he pushed past when he first became a loner. Normally Altair was always alert, listening for any wolf to come close, but today he let his mind drift. The worry that had been a heavy weight on his shoulders had surpassed for once, and he felt free. It was an odd feeling to suddenly express, but it was something he would certainly have to get used to if he wanted to be a proper pack wolf. That is if they accept me. He thought with a stern look on his rough features. Sitting up now, his posture was straight and his ears perked forward. He wasn’t trying to impress, well maybe a little, but all in all he wanted to show that he could be a wolf of choice. He wasn’t sure just how many wolves were in the pack he chose to request sanctuary in, but he knew that it was a slightly large number. The border was marked quite frequently, meaning that this pack wanted to keep their presence known. Slipping back into his slightly relaxed state, he couldn’t help but let out a slight rumble of pleasure as he watched a butterfly float by. There was playfulness still in him, and it was a rare thing to see.

The large brute didn’t seem like an easy one to startle, but once in the state of bliss (at certain form of it) the world could crash around him and he wouldn’t notice. Staring out at the lands before him, it was almost as if he was in a trance watching the world around him. Once the dark male walked towards him, Altair was a bit startled and quickly embarrassed by it. He didn’t show it, however, only straightened his posture and watched the brute before him walk over. He could easily see the amusement in the wolf’s golden gaze, and also the curiosity. Altair was all about observation, and as the male came closer, he noticed that he held his head high but not to high. Not the alpha.. He thought and continued to analyze the dark hued male. He didn’t hold his posture like a Beta either, not in the way Altair had at one point, nor did he stand like the other higher ranking positions. All the ranks were named differently in each region so he wasn’t sure what he could call this male, the only thing he didn’t want to call him was a liar. It was a serious issue when a wolf tried to assume another wolf’s rank without saying anything. He was sure that the wolf that stood before him was not going to lie to him, but he kept it in the back of his mind just in case it just happened to be something he could use. He let his tail brush the ground as he sat, watching the male as he finally took a seat and gave him an amused glance. That was when he spoke in a neutral voice, and it made him raise awarness. He relaxed as he waited for the male to finish speaking, and smirked then. Delta Desoto. What an interesting name. He thought and nodded his head to reply.

“Greetings Delta Desoto, I am Altair. I could use your assistance in being accepted into this pack, if i have the right skills to do so.” He said and looked over Desoto now, seeing him in a slightly different light. He relaxed his body, and felt calmer than he had in a while. He hadn’t been in a friendly conversation in quite some time. “The lands that Agavos resides in are beautiful, how long have you been in in these lands?” He asked, his eyes on Desoto as he asked about the lands. It was always rude to look away, and Altair had always been one for eye contact. He knew the rights and wrongs when it came to eye contact however, especially when it was to an alpha. “Who is your alpha?” He also questioned, wanting to hear about him as well. Not being apart of these lands, Altair had to learn at least a little bit about the lands and the packs before he could be accepted. His curiosity was great, but he didn’t want to waste to much time. Sometimes talking could get the better of any wolf. He remembered his times of being the one who accepted other wolves, some got nervous and never stopped talking. It was quite humorous at times to see, but Altair had to keep his calm and let the words flow easily.

PostSubject: Re: The Wandering Traveler (Desoto/Border Thread) The Wandering Traveler (Desoto/Border Thread) Icon_minitimeJuly 18th 2015, 15:34

Altair..

That was the stranger's name. It was an interesting name, but how well it might fit was the question. The brute had nodded in acknowledgment when the Delta had spoken, but Desoto gave no movement in return. He was assessing him, even if it didn't seem like so. The brute wanted acceptance, but what exactly could he offer? He seemed strong, perhaps a warrior or a hunter, but he could be wrong about what he might request. He seemed to know how these things went down, so the black brute knew he was from a pack before. But what had stricken him as to what was a bit off was his eye contact. It was rude to look away while in a conversation, but when asking for entry? It was best to respect. Although there were no signs of disrespect or cockiness in his voice, he never looked away from his face. Maybe it wasn't direct eye contact, but it was still something. And it gave the brute a feel that if he had belonged to a pack, he had earned a higher rank. But he could not be sure. What also hit him as unusual was the amount of questions he asked. How long had he been here? Who was the Alpha? The second was heard of, yes, but the first? Why did it matter how long he had been here? Was he planning to move up the ranks? Most likely. Narrowing his eyes Desoto's ear flicked, he should be the one asking the questions. But to comply he answered anyway, his voice a little more gruff with confusion and slight annoyance, but still a calmer tone. "The territory is even more wonderful inside. Maybe you'll be able to see it.. As for how long I have been here; since the beginning of the pack. That is all you need to know." He put emphasis on some words. Although it might be pleasant now, he had no idea who this wolf was, or what his intentions were. And besides, Desoto was not a very sociable wolf anyways. He got his work done, stayed focused, and knew a few members but that was basically it. He did not care for socializing much, and his rude personality often drove others away. "Our Alpha's name is Desmond. And he has lived in the lands of Age, which is what we call the area that consists of all the pack, neutral, and rouge territories, for a long time. Longer than myself. He used to live as a Rouge, but he has been doing a great job at leading us wolves here in Agavos. You can decide what that might mean for you; wether to stay or leave. But if you are leaving, do it now. No use wasting time over empty promises.." He was flashed back to the promises he had made to Erenyx, ones he had broken and left behind. But Agavos was not here then, and it was now his home. The cold hearted pack was a thing of the past, well perhaps the relationships he had made with those in it, and he would not return to it. Shaking the thought from his mind, he chose to speak again. "Since you have summoned me, I shall ask the questions. They are customary after all. What use could you offer to Alpha Desmond's pack, Altair? You don't seem like you grew up as a lone wolf, but rather in a pack. Perhaps gaining a high title even. What is your history? And how can that affect your performance here? Do not lie to me, brute. For I will remember what you say on this day. And how it all plays out in the future might determine where you stand among us." His tail swished as he waited for the newcomer's answer. Wether or not he will be accepted here rested on this very moment. Agaves was a new pack, but it was growing quickly. They needed strong members, and since a wolf had died on the hunt, they were down one for good. The other Omega.. Emily he believed, was seemingly in a coma. And if or when she will wake up was unknown. And due to that, the brute standing a few feet from him, who seemed to be relaxed, might be needed here. And then, if he was worth the talk, he would see the beauty of Agavos, in more depth than what could be seen from the outside.

He could not help but notice that the male was assessing him in every way, Altair usually picked up on those things every once in a while. He could see his eyes trying to gain knowledge from his looks to his posture, to everything in between. It was almost amusing to him, seeing the way that Desoto looked over him. Respect was one of the main keys in a situation like this, and for Altair he had always given his time to the wolves at the border. He had made sure they weren’t scared, or upset, but was also strict. He had a feeling that Desoto would be very strict with him, or at least try to push him just a tiny bit to get answers. He wouldn’t try to lie, he had no reason to lie, he had decided early on that lying only granted darkness in his life. He was pretty sure that he had surprised Desoto in a sort of way, asking a few more questions that probably any border wolf had. When Desoto’s eyes narrowed, the large brute knew that he had over stepped somewhere in his words. Altair remained calm, although, listening to him as he spoke, putting emphasis on a few words. Ah, a little less open than most. Which hell, I wouldn’t be open either. I could be a danger for all they know. He thought to himself, knowing that he wasn’t a danger at all, but of course the dark wolf before him didn’t know. Desoto stood before him judging him, making sure that his choice was an acceptable choice. It was still strange to Altair, being on the other end, and he had to be careful with his words now. “I’m sure it is beautiful, I can take your word for that.” Without replying to his last comment, he only put it in his mind for storage later. He had a feeling that this wolf wasn’t as sociable as others would be.

Either that, or he picked a pack that wasn’t to sociable at all. Either way, he could comply and become some-what resistant to talking. It was good to stay focus, and if that’s what this wolf did, Altair already had some respect for him. Obtaining respect in return would be the hard part if the wolf before him took his words wrong, or took his truth as a lie. His ears perked at the name, Desmond. Alpha Desmond.. he let the thought trail off as he listened to how the alpha had been a rogue before starting the pack. He could help but bark out a small laugh as Desoto told him if he didn’t like a rogue as a leader than he could leave. He quickly regained his composure and explained, “That small outburst was not meant to be rude, however, most alpha’s either start out as a rogue or have left another pack to start one. Some are born to it, but having an alpha who was once a rogue does not bother me. It almost enlightens me to hear of a difference.” He said, his voice light but it rumbled with depth of a male wolf. It was good to hear of a change, a rogue running a pack was well hope to him. Not that he could assume alpha, at least not right away, but it was nice to hear about. Once Desoto spoke again, he looked over the male once more, and noticed that he seemed to be a little upset about the questions he had asked before. He held his tongue, as more questions, and maybe a remark or two came to his mind, but he was calm as he listened. Now it was his turn to partake in the question answering. The first could be tricky, but he wanted to speak calmly and clearly. Since Desoto asked about his past, he would explain what he could bring to the pack from his past. “I have no reason to lie, it doesn’t appeal to me.” He spoke before Clearing his throat, and flicking his ears he began.

“I was born to an alpha couple, with two other siblings, we were almost inseparable. I was the black sheep of the family, always causing some kind of mischievous. My brothers and I started training young, our father insisting on it. I had wanted to explore the beautiful lands that I started to grow up in, but didn’t want to go alone. So I pushed my younger, more defenseless brother to come with.” He paused thinking of the memory as it unfolded before going back to the story, shaking his head a bit. “Long story short with that, my brother was killed, and nobody blamed me but some did even if they didn’t say it, my brother did even because he was close to Crowley. After that I forced myself to train, wanting to please myself but also the memory of my brother, and worked my way up in the ranks. I became the proud son who worked hard to be where he was. I was going to assume beta position after I worked up each rank, but as I was the golden son, my brother became the dark one.”

He continued on, glancing at Desoto’s expression before continuing on. “I was exiled from my pack,” He knew that would be a real kicker to Desoto, “because I found my mother dead outside of camp. She had died by the paws of my brother, but I was exiled because of stronger belief that it was me, because I found her.” He paused knowing that this was possibly the deal breaker. He didn’t want the male to shove him beside because of his past. “My father was in to much of a grief to see that it was my brother and not me who had done this deed, and in his grief he let my brother take over. It was my brother who exiled me, and I have been a wander ever since.” He let out a breathing, tired of speaking about his past despite it being necessary. “What I can bring to Agavos is strength, loyalty and my trust. I have not been with another pack like my home in a long while, I would like to have a chance to start over and be a true pack wolf again.” This was the truth, everything that came out of his muzzle was the truth. Whether or not Desoto believed him was the question, he hoped the male heard the truth in his voice. His past pained him, and it caused a lot of memories but he held them at bay hoping that his past would not cause issues.

PostSubject: Re: The Wandering Traveler (Desoto/Border Thread) The Wandering Traveler (Desoto/Border Thread) Icon_minitimeJuly 18th 2015, 18:11

The possible member took a few moments to reply. Thinking over what the Delta had asked and how he would answer, and from his words, he seemed he would be telling the truth. Before he started his story and offering, Desoto nodded his head once. 'Good move, now let us see what happened in your lifespan..' His expression gave nothing away as he stared along blankly. The start to his past was good, he was an alpha by blood. That would mean he would likely become or be dominant. But perhaps he knew his place. Plenty of wolves were born to Alpha pairs, some leaving and joining other lands. It was part of it, the brute supposed, not everyone can stay where they hail from. He surely hadn't, twice; his birth place and Erenyx. And for a moment, it seemed as if Altair was in similar. But as he went on explaining he learned of the deaths of his family members. First his younger brother, whom the brute named as Crowley, and then his mother. After the death of his brother he trained hard, working towards a higher rank and was supposed to be the next Beta. But as he became the favored child, his other sibling grew angry. And in that event, the brother killed his mother. Setting the blame on Altair without a thought, because it was he whom had found her. The pack placed the blame on him too, and for that he was exiled.

Desoto's eyes narrowed and his tail flicked. So he was a supposed murderer? But from what he had said he was innocent in the act. Raising his head, the Delta cocked it to the side a tad. A look of thought in his narrowed eyes, 'That doesn't explain why he was exiled though..' But before he could think anymore, the male got back to explaining. So his father was locked in a state of grief, and Altair's loyalty to the pack was being questioned. Unable to continue more, their father had stepped down, handing the title of Alpha to the actual killer, who then exiled his own brother, most likely out of jealousy. He lived the life as a loner up until now, wandering about. Everything was understood in his words. And the brute surely did not seem to be lying to him. As for what he could offer the pack that the golden eyed brute called home was his strength, loyalty, trust. His wish was to start over, become a true pack wolf again. It seemed like a reasonable reason. And his offers seemed generous enough. The only thing that Desoto was unsure of was his history. What if he had been the killer? He would be letting someone like that into Agavos. But he supposed that he would have to wait and see.

He stayed silent for a few moments, mulling over what had been said. He had made his decision. There was just one final step. "Where you could have lied, you seem to have chosen not to. Your actions while telling your story have made me believe and trust that is what truly happened. If so, you are nothing but a victim. An innocent bystander that was framed for a crime that he did not commit. I understand your history, and hold being a lone wolf nothing against you. I was one as well, after I left home. And many are as well. As for what you can offer us, they are generous and shall be accepted. But only if you can promise me a few things. Will you, Altair, lend Agavos your mind and body when needed? Will you accept and follow our laws and customs? Will you give us your loyalty and service? If so, I, along with the pack, will reward you with our own loyalty, strength, and trust, as well as a place among us. If you can, Warrior Altair is what you will be known as from this day forward."

It was a lot for the brute to express, his past had haunted him for quite some time, and it would never fully go away. Some wolves he had met through his travels made it seem like he could switch it on and off, which was a gullible thing to say. As he explained his past to the male, he could see that he was analyzing each word. Once he got to the part about his mother, he knew that he had hit a bit of turbulence with his explanation. He could see Desoto’s eyes narrow as he spoke, but after explaining it all he seemed to be less worried than he was before. Altair wondered what the male was thinking, what possibly went through his mind as his story was put out into the air, and revealed. It felt weird having his past out and in the open air, like a black cloud hanging over the two wolves. This was the moment of truth, would he be accepted or told to leave? There was a slight fear in his heart but he wasn’t as worried as he originally thought he would be. He had been hurt and in pain before, this would be just another tragedy to add to the list. He knew that Desoto would be taking a risk letting him into the pack, he had to consider if he really did hurt his mother or not. Altair did not, but he could only hope that Desoto believed him. He drew in a breath after finishing all his talking and let his emotions calm. Desoto was only silent for a few moments before he began to speak. There was something like relief going through Altair as he heard Desoto believe his history, and it made him feel a joy that he hadn’t felt in a long time. When he asked if he could promise only a few things, it was an easy task. Of course he would promise, he wouldn’t just promise he would swear. He didn’t need any choice to leave, if this was where he could make sanctuary then he would take it. “I will lend my body and mind when needed to Agavos. I will accept your laws and customs, I will give Agavos my loyalty and service. I will what the pack expects and asks of me when it is needed.” He said and dipped his head, before looking at Desoto with his light silver blue eyes, feeling a great heaviness lifted from his body.

[Sorry for the shortness~]

For once that entire time in their exchange, a small awkward smile etched its way onto Desoto's features. He wasn't sure how he should feel about Altair. Perhaps he could get to know him better in the future. But one thing was for certain, he would enjoy watching the newbie as he adjusted to their pack. He wouldn't stalk him, no, but keep an eye on him. He was not completely sure wether or not lies had been told, but it was almost, if not completely sure there wasn't. As the stranger finished speaking his words, pledging to give Agavos his loyalty and service, the midnight pelted brute dipped his head in mutual respect for the new member. He took a step back, a gesture that spoke that he may cross the border and into his homelands. "Then welcome home, Warrior Altair of Agavos." He turned then, his tail moving on its own with the motion of his chest and torso. He took a few steps towards the trees, heading inward into the territory. Turning his head over his shoulder he called back to Altair, "If you'd like, you can follow me to the camp clearing and get yourself situated. If not, you may go ahead and explore the lands I can see you want to know of. I only wish you luck of finding your way to the camp, and to your new life here with us." Turning his head back around he kept walking forward. It was up to the other brute to follow him or not. To Desoto it didn't matter either way, he would be alone soon enough anyways.

Welcome to Agavos, Warrior Altair!
