A Song to the Moon (P/ Desmond) Empty

Slowly Katyusha shifted in her den, resting her head on her paws to turn her tired gaze out of the entrance, looking over the hushed empty cluster of dens. Long ago the pack had settled into the warmth of their dens for the night, protected from the biting cold and slowly falling snow that blanketed the landscape. With cold silver orbs resting lazily on this picturesque view as she allowed her mind to wander. The warrior wondered what her daughter was doing right now, and what she was like now. She hoped Aleu was happy where ever she was. She also thought about herself, and her future; as well as the demands her body was making once again this winter. Giving up on the idea of getting any sleep anytime soon Katyusha would pull herself from the entrance of her den, stepping into the empty pack clearing and out towards the deep tranquil gulley across the territory. As the fae crossed the pack's living quarters she would pause for a moment in front of the den of her mentor and Alpha. The Warrior had been feeling rather lonely today, and for a brief moment she considered checking to see if her friend was awake and wanted to join her, but she didn't believe any others would be up at this hour.

Pulling her gaze away from the large, darkened den the fae would continue into the Gulley, leaving a noticeable trail of paw prints in the shallow snow. As the fae neared the bottom of the valley she would stop just short of the banks of the frozen stream, shifting back onto her haunches to look up at the bright moon, barely visible through the break's in the clouds as the snow continued to fall peacefully around her. Tilting her head back the fae would let out a long, beautiful song to the empty night. She didn't know if it would fall upon any ears, nor did she care, as this song was for herself, and those she loved and was separated from. As the song slowly drifted to it's close Katyusha would lower her muzzle once more, silver orbs lowering to rest on the surface of the frozen stream, her tail wrapping around her paws gently as she waited, hoping she could find something to occupy her mind while sleep evaded her.

For the past several nights, Desmond had not been sleeping in his den. Instead, he wandered the terrain and made his way to explore. The world was even more beautiful in winter. The time away from the pack was also good for him, for it was the time of day when he was most likely to fall to any instincts. He shook his head as he moved from his home lands. He wandered around the area of his borders, walking along the border. His eyes wandered, but still he could find nothing to entertain his restless mind. At one portion of his border trek, he caught the scent of a fresh smell. It belonged to his apprentice and friend, Katyusha. It was very fresh as though she had been here recently. Tilting his head to the side, he followed after it. He wandered into the gulley, following the tracks to see where she stood. He kept his pace, wandering casually as he stood behind her finally. As he approached, he looked over her form. He could tell that winter had come. It was not only from the snow on the ground. No, Desmond saw a huge imaginary sign above her back which yelled out 'I'm ready!' He shook his head and cleared his throat, "Shouldn't you be in your den little lady?"

As the small fae sat on the edge of the large stream that cut down the middle of this tranquil gulley, she had to admit the cold, nipping air of winter felt quite calming against her skin. The fae could remember a time when she looked forward to winter, when she was preparing herself both physically and mentally to tend to Steele's desires, a task that she had found quite enjoyable if she were to be honest. But that was truly the only winter the fae could remember herself looking forward to, and it had quickly proven that no winter could pass with only joy. In her homeland as a pup winter had always brought bitter cold, and harsh famines to the tundra. And in the winter's after her lose each winter brought with it a sense of loneliness she didn't feel the rest of the year. While it was true there were many nights the warrior longed for someone to lay against, to feel the gentle rise of their chest as that gentle beating of their heart lulled her to sleep, knowing that in the morning she would wake next to a wolf that truly loved her, it was a dream she had long ago given up. But during the winter these feelings seemed to be amplified with the bitter cold of the nights, and her own body's treason. It was bad enough to long for the company of another, that feeling of closeness and love that came with having a mate, but this could be pushed out of her mind, and managed to a degree. But this new form of longing came not from her mind, but her body, demanding she do her part to create more heirs.

It seemed no matter how busy the fae tried to keep herself she couldn't escape these longings. More often than the girl wished to admit she would find herself staring at the large, powerful brutes of the pack as they went about their business, and with a select few of them, she would have to fight back the thoughts of what they could be doing together to relieve such urges. But the fae was stronger than that, and while she would so dearly love to have a special wolf to spend this winter with, she didn't even imagine ever making such a dream reality.

As the fae allowed her mind to wonder to such things in her lonesome, the sudden voice from behind her would cause the warrior to nearly jump, her head turning quickly as the familiar brute made his way towards her, bringing a few gentle swishes of her long tail to brush over the snow. Being quickly jerked from her thoughts Katyusha would pause for just a moment to allow his words to register, a little grin crossing her lips at the question "I could ask you the same thing Desmond. Isn't it rather dangerous for an Alpha to be out alone at this time of the night?" she asked, almost seeming as if she were just pondering aloud to herself. "So I must ask, what brings you from your den to little old me on such a cold night?" she asked, turning her head back towards the stream. Slowly the fae began to feel her heart racing in her chest, the powerful scent of the brute reaching her nose with force and bringing those season's urges back.

Katyusha had to admit she had taken quite the liking to her Mentor, he was kind, and funny, and so very strong and handsome. He reminded her of Steele in a lot of ways, and in a lot of ways he was wonderful in a way uniquely his own. But never before now had she ever considered what crossed her mind now. Taking a deep breath of the cold wintry air the warrior would push the thought from her mind, turning her head back to Desmond to see if he was going to join her, or if she would be moving to join him.

He smiled to her. She was very silly for making such a comment. Desmond had lived alone for so long, he sometimes felt he was better off being alone. The Alpha shook his head and spoke to her. "Except for the fact that I have lived on my own for years and years... I know how to handle myself. The questionable one of us both, would be you, my dear." He finished speaking with yet another smile. But lifted a single paw to push her further into the snow. It was a playful gesture. Not seen to be mean or rude. "I have been spending several nights away from my den. For some reason, the night calls to me. It is when the world is most at peace. I can find time for myself and use it to think about things, to plan out other things... You know, just Alpha business as usual." He moved to grab a large amount of snow in his maw. He carried it over to her and dropped it on her head. He laughed and looked to her as the snow covered her backside. "What brings you out here all alone? Haven't you heard of the snow yeti that eats little faes who wander too far from home?" His smile grew wide over his maw. These would be the kind of things he would someday tell his own young, ones he actually wanted for himself. He looked to her with his gleaming green gaze and allowed his ears to rest on the top of his head. He didn't need to be on alert now. The large predators were all nestled in their dens for winter or wherever they lived. The only thing he would have to worry about were other wolves and even then, he was not worried.

At the Alpha's grin Katyusha would only giggle, knowing how silly it must have sounded to him, even if she truly worried for her Alpha, knowing all too well what happened to Steele when he responded the same to her. "The difference is Desmond, you are important now. As a rogue it was hardly worth attacking you for the gain, but with Teren still leading Erenyx, any Alpha is a target. But I'm sure you can handle him." she said, giving a little playful yip at his shove, the fae falling into the snow and onto her side playfully as she looked up at him "And so strong! I guess you don't need to worry after all." she giggled, rolling onto her belly to lift herself once more, snow now sticking in large clumps to the fae's thick fur. As the brute began to answer her question, Katyusha would turn her gaze to him, nodding slowly at his response. She could understand that, as the dark tranquility of night made her feel more at ease somehow. Even on the nights she felt lonely, or her mind was cluttered with worry over her daughter, or other things that may bother her, a walk through the dark always seemed to calm her.

Soon however the fae would be pulled from her thoughts as that cold pile of snow rushed down her back, sending a little shiver down her spine as ears perked to keep a fair amount of that pile balanced on her head. As he spoke once more Katyusha couldn't help but giggle, turning her gaze back to the stream "Well, it's rather embarrassing. But I was feeling rather....restless, given the season. I figured a walk would help clear my mind so I could sleep." she said, standing and slowly turning to face him, snow still clinging in chunks to the side she had fallen on, and a bit on her back, slowly falling off as she took a step towards him. "Besides, at this rate you'll turn me into a snow yeti!" she barked playfully, "Rawr!" she barked out in an almost cute way as she lifted her front paws from the snow to slap them against the ground in front of him, lowering her chest to almost touch the snow playfully, giving another little giggle as her tail started to sway behind her. "Besides, if I did see the yeti I'd just have a nice new pelt to keep me warm this winter. After all I have the best mentor in these lands!"

Katyusha had always loved her time with Desmond for just this reason. No matter what afflicted her mind, she could always count on her best friend to bring a smile to her lips. Whether by a game, or just his silly, almost puppish antics. It was a feeling Katyusha hadn't felt in some time, actual joy. And it seemed every time she got to spend a few minutes with the brute it always helped her escape the worries of the world.
