Finding Peace Empty

Ember dragged her paws along the forest ground. She had wasted all of her energy to get here. Mud caked most of her legs and she felt its extra weight pulling her down. Her oddly grey and black swirled pelt glistened with moisture. The fae had drug herself through both freezing rain and mud in order to get here. Her blue flecked, extremely pale grey eyes were full of excitement. Her tail hung like a dead weight even though she was happy, but she also was very tired. Ember didn't know how hard getting through mud was until she actually had to drag her small frame through it. With her fur being as soaked as it was, you could see every rib on her starving body.

Sitting at the very edge of their border, Ember tilted her head back and howled for the alpha or someone who was allowed to accept her, using almost the last of what little energy she had. Closing her muzzle, she cut off the howl after almost two minutes. A sigh left her body as she waited, trying to stay standing. Her muscles twitched along with her ears. Her long hind legs were folded underneath of her smaller than average frame. Ember's pure white legs, chest, and stomach were now almost completely covered in mud, and she didn't like the feeling of it one bit. All the adrenaline rushes had long left, for they had come and gone with her struggle to get where she was now.

Ember didn't exactly feel comfortable with the thought of her fate in another wolf's paws, but she guessed that was something she had to get over. Letting out a tired huff, the fae hung her head a little bit lower in order to relax a little bit. She was so excited to possibly finding a new home after so long of looking. Catching the scent of their border had sparked her determination, and a little bit of her odd self. Yes, this fae was quite different than others and was often called the Odd One. She didn't understand the reasons for her nickname, but she guessed that there was something that other wolves noticed in her that she didn't know herself. Ember guessed she would find out when someone came to the border to meet her. All of these thoughts flitted around her small head as she sat, waiting.

The large brute who had been sleeping in his den, slowly stretched his legs forward. He yawned, expanding his large fangs, feeling a cool breeze against his tongue. As he yawned the tongue slipped from his maw and licked the side. He lifted his head and slowly moved from his den. His large white body shook as he fluffed out his flattened coat. His ears perked forward as his tail rested, curled above his spine. The Alpha had a wonderful rest and would soon continue he trek around the camp. He paraded his large stature as he spread his scent at the border. He had done this countless times, wishing the other brutes would soon be ready to take more responsibility so they could also patrol and accept members.

Azul had been walking for what had seemed like an hour. He stood still once he heard the call from a fae. He quickly headed towards her. He wondered what fae she would be. He thought of the fiery Esmeralda, who had became a warrior of his pack. He thought of Chiara who was willing to listen and obey. She also became a warrior, but he realized he was accepting warriors after warriors. A couple Caretakers and here and there, but nothing too high up there. He knew he was going to need a fae to even out the crazed Steele. His aggression would be one to do a great deal of work with, but for now he would need the belligerent brute. His temper and theories made it easy for Azul to stay the nice Alpha and only being aggressive when it was absolutely necessary.

As he approached her, he smiled at her peppered fur. "Hello," he said with a gentle voice. "I am Azul, these are my lands. What brings you to my border?" His gentle eyes looked into hers and then over her once or twice. His ears were pressed forward and waiting for her reply. His tail stayed above his spine. His pads were firmly planted into the ground, keeping his dominant stance.

Ember's small, peppered ears flicked forward at the sound of paw steps. They were farther away, but her senses were very sensitive. Trying to make herself look more like wolf and not a mud monster, she cleaned most of the mud off of her blindingly white fur. Holding her head up high as her stomach twisted in excitement. She held her head high in determination no matter how tired she was. As the minutes had gone by, Ember's pelt had started to dry and now she looked like her small, fluffy self. The fae flicked her odd looking eyes around, looking for the direction of the wolf's steps. His scent hit her as she neared. She shook her fur really quick to make sure it was fully fluffy as she waited.

When he emerged, she knew immediately that he was the Alpha. Ember bowed her head towards him, showing she meant no harm. The Alpha had taken on a dominant stance, but the little fae kept her head up anyway. Ember's ear perked forward as he spoke. His voice was surprisingly gentle, and it made her widen her pale eyes a small bit. When he finished speaking, she answered his question. Her voice was smooth and almost had a haunting melody to it. Ember bent her head to him in greeting, speaking as she did so. "Hello, Alpha Azul. I am Ember. I'm looking for a home to finally rest after a long time of wandering. I can assure you that I have skills that would benefit your pack. My looks are small, but I am rather strong."

Ember didn't want to frighten him with why they called her the Odd One, so she closed her mouth before she could start rambling. Her long, peppered tail had curled around her white legs. She watched the Alpha as he analyzed her. Ember made sure she kept her stance strong, but a sign of weariness showed in her blue flecked, pale grey eyes. She kept her head up, making sure he could assess all of her, even the scar that ran from her paw to her shoulder. As he assessed her, she also assessed the Alpha. Hoping he wouldn't chase her off, she watched the Alpha with her odd eyes. Her ears flicked forward as she waited for his reply.

The white Alpha looked upon the fae, listening to her words. She seemed to be a rather interesting fae. It was true she was tiny, but he knew not the strength she claimed to have. Azul smiled as she kept her some-what dominant stance with her head high. But he did not feel threatened and he was not like Steele in the slightest. Had Steele been there, he would have dominated her, forcing her to submit, whether it be with his wild aggression or with his fangs. Although Azul had not witnessed such behavior from the black brute, he knew it was a possibility. He looked to the fae and watched her still. She had completed her talk and he still kept his dominant stance. "Welcome to the pack then Ember. You speak of great strength, which I would much like to see. But for now, you shall be a Warrior. Welcome home. You may now do as you please. Wander the lands, meet the other pack members, or make your den in the camp clearing. The choice is up to you. I must continue my rounds." With a nod of his head, he started on his way. His tail wagged softly from side to side.
