The water had froze over, a thick layer of ice separating her from the cold liquid underneath. As the winter progressed, the ice got better at supporting the weight of a full grown wolf. She placed her paws on top of the ice, cautiously at first, until she could be sure that it wouldn't shatter. Even under the impression that it would support her no matter how far out she walked, she stayed close to the edges so that she was a mere leap away from land should circumstances suddenly change. She wasn't one to explore, though having just arrived at these new lands - so vast, so ethereal compared to what she grew accustomed to at the Haven - she wanted to get a feel for everywhere that she was permitted to be.

She couldn't stop herself from growing curious of Erenyx, however. She would have been able to do exceptional things in that pack, fully knowing of the differences in behaviour between their wolves, and her own in Helidos. Someone like her would blend in better in Erenyx, but it was simple enough to play the role of a kind-hearted, gentle spirit. Perhaps it wasn't the most satisfying of packs, but anything was better than calling Teren her Alpha; she knew the wicked sovereign better than his new followers. They were blind to the violence he would bestow upon them. It was only a matter of time, and although she wasn't happy to see everything working out in his favour, she remained intrigued nonetheless of what would become of his pack.

Staring out into the water, watching the stillness of the world as it succumbed to winter's grasp, she exhaled a breath of frosted air. The whiteness of her body was harmonious with the background, disguising the demon that lurked just beneath an angelic expression. There was plenty she had yet to experience in this new kingdom, and she couldn't wait to get her paws dirty, patient for the day everyone was in awe of the pretty face that hid the real snake underneath.

Winter was firmly entrenched everywhere the brute went, even in these once warm and pleasant lands. The sand that would warm in the summer sun, covered in a thick layer of cold snow, the aquamarine waters frozen solid. The normal sounds of ocean waters washing in and out were silenced in the winter, replaced by a howling wind that seemed to seep away any body heat a wolf had if given even an inch. Pain did not let the cold air bother him however, crunching through the snow covered sand, his thick coat kept him protected from the cold weather.

In truth, he had come to this unfamiliar land on a whim, not really exploring as much as seeking out a solitary place for his brooding mind. As he approached the frozen shoreline however, he caught sight of another individual, staring out into the frozen, dead ocean. It was a white she-wolf of Helidos, although not the same one he had encountered before. Pain, somewhat intrigued and bored at the same time, stepped onto the ice, testing it to see if it would hold his weight before making his way over. He did not hold an aggressive stance as he made his way over, just a neutral one. If she wanted to fight he would be happy to oblige, but he seemed in no mood to fight at the moment. He had come here to get away from the hectic pack life and training. Various healing wounds could be seen on his muscular black and white frame, the most notable one being on his shoulder, the various others he had acquired during training.

As he neared his piercing amber eyes would pass over the she-wolf scrutinizing every detail in her white fur with a seemingly bored look. His attention would soon turn to the ice beneath his paws again however, only keeping the other wolf in the edge of his vision where she stood several yards away. The water beneath him seemed to contain the same stillness, no movement or signs of life except for the two wolves, he inclined his head then looking back at the white she-wolf, "Nothing moves here except the wind, it is almost as if the very land itself has died with the cold winter. Not somewhere I would expect to find one from Helidos."

He had for the most part learned the reputations each pack held, Helidos being accepting of all and loving for the most part, Ernyx cold and ruthless. Pain had chosen the latter because it suited his needs, he needed to become stronger, even if it meant joining the pack of Alpha Teren. He would however never sell himself completely to Teren, he had his own goals and as soon as he could cast Ernyx aside he most likely would.

Even though she hadn’t immediately paid attention to the newcomer upon his arrival - his intrusion - that didn’t stand to faze her when she finally turned to take a look at him, no signs of surprise registering within her bronze eyes as she scrutinized him in a manner similar to how he did to her moments before. The level of muscle upon his body was admittedly impressive, though it certainly took more than a brawny stature to have the Helidos Warrior flattening her ears in fear. Strength was nothing more than a ploy of the mind, constantly playing tricks, living and breathing the need to confuse. Someone of skin and bone could just as easily arise to be the victor in a fight as long as they knew how to put their agility to good use. For now, however, there was no need to be contemplating the various factors of a spar. There was nothing threatening about the way that he stood before her, offering a few nonchalant words, detecting the mild signs of genuine shock lacing his voice - was it really surprising to him, simply due to the pack in which she resided? She never knew before now how much the wolves of these lands took the reputation of the pack to heart. It’d take an idiot not to know that Helidos was of the kind, and Erenyx of the blood-thirsty, but not every single wolf had to follow the footsteps of their pack’s commonality. She was certain that Erenyx had its fair share of gentle souls, and surely Helidos would have another one or two demons. If not, well . . . there was always room for a first.

“A shame that you’re blinded by the standing of my pack.” The words dripped off of her tongue, spoken smoothly and eloquently. Turning on her heel, now fully facing the unidentified male, she took a handful of gracious steps towards him until she was nothing more than the length of a tail away. Even with this newly established closeness, she felt no less confident. From afar, it had been harder to acknowledge anything surpassed the colour of his fur and the toning of his muscles. Now, however, she could see all of his abrasions far more clearly. Most of them seemed as though they were newly inflicted, her eyes narrowing to indicate to him that she was examining said wounds, putting the pieces together, determining in her mind precisely what was happening in this male’s life at Erenyx. She couldn’t be certain whether or not he was training with someone to become stronger, or simply picking fights with a variety of his pack mates, personalities clashing and resulting in injury, perhaps even death - she wouldn’t put it passed the likes of those she knew from Erenyx to be particularly sadistic. Alpha Teren, after all, wouldn’t be the first in line to put a stop to things when they were getting out of hand. “I suspect that you believe I, a mere follower of Helidos, am too kind to take joy away from these dieing lands, yes?” There was nothing but innocence inscribed in the slight tilting of her head, eyes of brilliant fire cast upwards in continuance of her search of his facial expression, looking for something that would confirm what it was she had already assumed.

He was without a way of knowing precisely what kind of a Warrior he was dealing with. She had went to Helidos to escape the perpetual service to Teren, for if he hadn’t killed their former Alpha, there would have been nothing stopping her from standing at this male’s side as one of Erenyx instead. She wouldn’t claim to completely despise the decision she had made, however, for none would expect one of such deception and trickery to take refuge in the pack lands that she had chosen. This male had proved well enough to her that, because of her pack’s name, she was instantaneously labeled as nothing more than another kindred spirit that could never be anything other than loving, meant to assume the best of everyone that walked her way. It made for a rather beautiful lie. All she had to do was smile to make matters all the more believable. That was all it took for the venomous cobra underneath to be overlooked, treated like there was no more poison packed inside of its lethal bite.

From her first words, he was caught off guard. The preconceptions he had picked up about Helidos and Ernyx misguided the warrior, so much so that he was not prepared for the she-wolf's confidence. She was different, and Pain could tell almost instantly. The way her words glided out of her maw, the eloquence in which she held herself as she sauntered over to him. The whole act was completely sarcastic. Even her words implied a different individual lurking behind the Helidos demeanor he had until now defined all such wolves as having.

As she examined him from closer up he did the same, but he did not get any more useful information that he did from afar, just unbroken white fur. As she spoke again, in the same tone, an innocent tilting of her head, Pain would look her straight in the eye with the same unwavering look that the she-wolf held, as if probing deep into her mind. There was one individual he had met before similar to the she-wolf that stood before him. She had all the same qualities, she was calculating, manipulative, a snake.

He was considerably more wary of the she-wolf now, his narrowing eyes indication enough that he had seen through her ruse, or at the least, had guessed correctly. "You remind me of someone else, she-wolf. And she was nothing like what Helidos wolves are made out to be." With his suspicions thrown out into the wintry air now, he still did not know what to expect, would she continue with her act, or would she abandon it?

It was the narrowing of his eyes that she had been waiting for. That one, simple gesture was what changed the whole playing field; serving as an indication to her that he was no longer looking at her like she was the gentle, Helidos female that he had presumed her to be, but instead as someone that could potentially pose a threat or two, should circumstances change. Regardless of his new suspicions, he didn’t seem the least bit taken aback by their closeness. Instead, he continued to speak to her just as he had before, if not with a few traces of skepticism that hadn’t been there previously. She was rarely anything other than confusing upon first encounters; others grew to understand that it was in their best interest to remain wary of her at all times, but that was a realization that dawned with time. This male, so it seemed, came upon that realization a lot quicker. He seemed cautious of her, yet unwilling to back away out of dislike for the appearance of weakness. Curious of how his mind was attempting to decipher her motives, she took yet another short step, bringing her that much closer, considering there wasn’t a lot of distance left between them in the first place. She had always been one to test boundaries and disregard what others liked to call their ‘personal space’. Although she was likely too close for comfort, there was nothing currently aggressive about her body language. She was dancing along the outskirts of this male’s mind, attempting to put together the pieces of how he worked; if there was a temper underneath his mask of neutrality that could be unleashed.

“Who is it that I remind you of?” She questioned with the same innocent voice that she had used prior, unwilling to release herself from her web of false kindness just yet. Although the male had shown himself to suspect her of as much as prancing around the truth of her nature, she was still fully aware of his lack of proof. All he had to back up his suspicions were a couple of sentences on her part, which, mind, wasn’t a lot to go by. Speaking so eloquently, so effortlessly, came as natural to her as breathing. She knew how to talk her way out of the recesses of hostile confrontations, and how to maintain an innocuous charade in a manner similar to how she was doing now. “I cannot stress my interest in this female you speak of. It would be lovely to meet someone that you believe possesses a few similarities to myself.” Whether her words were honest or sarcastic, one other than herself would never be able to do anything other than guess. There was not a flash of unwanted emotion inside of her dark eyes, continuing to portray the exact same level of harmless intrigue as before. She was a master of sculpting her features, molding them in such a way as to leave outsiders interpreting her precisely how she desired them to be. Having so many years of practice, it hardly stood to be a charade anymore. It was simply who she was, both inside and out. There was the smallest flecks of danger, of pending catastrophe, that followed absently in her wake. They went everywhere that she went; a constant reminder that one could never stress the importance of caution. It was far too easy to switch from anodyne conversation, to sadistic attack in a matter of seconds. Perhaps this entire situation felt relatively safe for the time being, but there was no certainty behind where it could be going.

To be honest, this she-wolf confused Pain. She pranced around with the eloquence of what would be expected of a Helidos fae despite his obvious suspicion. It was her eyes, an amber brighter than his dark amber orbs that seemed to always be picking him apart, always analyzing him as if staring through him into his interior. Even though this bothered him he would not show it outwardly, he didn't want to give he the satisfaction, or else she would just get more curious. As it was he did not know if she was actually a threat either.

When she stepped forward again now, the two becoming uncomfortably close, the male stepped away his fur furling upwards defensively, he had no desire of being that close to her. When she spoke again she kept the same tone, which seemed to unnerve him more than her previous closeness. It would be in typical Ernyx character at this moment to hide his uneasiness in a veil of amusement or contempt, to appear strong. Pain did not waste his time with such things however, he knew she was a threat and if he allowed her to get close enough she could rip his throat out with her advantage of speed before he could bring his strength to bear. As she expressed her interest in knowing about who he mentioned he narrowed his eyes again, but he would tell her, he saw no problem in doing so as he would probably never see her again. "You are strange, you seem to like to play around with emotions, just like the one you remind me of."

Pain sighed then, sitting down for now, the distance between them was safe enough now, "If you must know however, her name was Nemesis, and she shared this manipulative trait with you." he looked her straight in the eye, "But she was also ruthless, cold and calculating, and power-hungry. She is the one who corrupted my sibling in his early age against my pack, which led to their deaths at his paws." It was odd telling the Helidos wolf what he had not even told anyone else in Ernyx, fragments of his past. The most he had revealed to them was his desire for revenge and nothing more, no reasons as to why. It had only been on a whim that he had told the she-wolf as much, curiosity as to what she made of it overcoming suspicion for now. "You will not get the chance to meet her however, I will kill her along with my brother."

The male stepped away from her within the seconds that she had invaded his space, far from oblivious to the way that his fur bristled. She wished intensely to flash a smile, then, but resisted. She was satisfied with knowing the limits that she was able to press; the things that he would not allow. There was no reason to stray as close as she had a second time. For now, she was content with the distance he had established, and would only make a move to diminish with it once again if she found it necessary for reasons his ears, though of Erenyx as they were, were probably too innocent to dare hear.

The wolf he spoke of was intriguing at best. It seemed he, as of yet, had no reason to think her of being ruthless, cold, or calculating, all unbeknownst to be other traits of hers hidden underneath a perfectly kind face. She, Nemesis, would have been a fine character - she could practically see how their exchange would go: two demons, prancing around each other’s thoughts so expertly. It had been a while since Banshee had met another, and such made it rather pitiful that she’d never get a chance to meet this she-wolf, for she’d supposedly be dead before she got the chance. Such a threat did little to impress the white carnivore, and even less to scare her away, flicking an ear mildly in response to his ominous words. “A shame that we will never meet,” she spoke eloquently, it almost seeming believable that such a thing was shameful, if not for the disinterest with which she disregarded it. “Though, perhaps, someone like her - of such qualities - would be better off dead. I wish you the greatest luck in your endeavours.”

Someone like her so happened to be someone a lot like Banshee, and this did not go unnoticed. She realized, quite plainly, that the world would likely be a much better place if it didn’t have wolves like Banshee, or wolves like Nemesis. Was it not impossible, however, to completely rid it of all of its demonic beings? A lot of them, so it seemed, collected in this place that she had called her own - this wolf served directly underneath one of the worst monsters she had ever had the pleasure to meet.

“Tell me of your Alpha.”
There was no emotion revealed in her eyes, save for the slight spark that had formed, only to vanish in the next instant. She knew that Teren was here - she had smelled his scent on the Erenyx border; such was what had driven her to Helidos - and she longed to know more about how he was doing in his new rank. “Teren, is it not? I hope his reign is faring smoothly?” Like he wished to rid this world of his sister and brother, she wished to rid it of Teren - though she, of course, was not so open nor driven to rush the completion of such a goal. There was no hunger in her eyes, no readable dislike. Just another monster asking questions about a fellow monster from the past.

A monster with whom she had unfinished business.
