Remembering Sunday Empty

It was time; Ember felt it in her bones. She felt it in the way her heart had slowed when she awoke this morning. She didn’t have long, but she knew of all places where she wanted to be. The old she-wolf set out on an adventure she would not be returning from. The age she’d reached to was an achievement for the trauma she’d gone through in the middle of her life, and she was ready to go. Her body moved with grace, her paws bouncing lightly across the ground. If there was any a time for remembrance, today would have to be the day. She knew so much and so little anymore, but she always would know the beauty and love she felt during her final days. Things had started to decline slowly, and that was when Ember knew she wouldn’t make it through another season. Internally, Ember reviewed all she’d known and decided that, no matter how they’d weighed or measured, she loved them all. The pack was wonderful, and she was so sure it would thrive with the days to come. Unfortunately, it would have to continue to thrive without her existence in the world. Wherever she went, she hoped she would be able to smile down on this little piece of paradise every once in a while. Slowly her lips parted and her tongue lolled as she panted with her efforts for her travel. Her heart thumped only mildly faster, and she that she would be fading fast. She continued to remember until she ended with Jackle. His darling face made her wish to sing so happily, but she believed he understood exactly why she had left.

The lovely place was frozen in time, but she knew she wanted to come here when she’d last took a slight glimpse at the place. Among the rows, Ember walked until she found the tree she had desired. It was so lovely, that tree. It had the most beautiful of blooms in the spring. She’d hoped her body would wait until the petals could dust over her body during her last days, but Ember knew the time had come. Quietly Ember found the trunk of the tree and nestled herself in the thin patch of snow beside it. It had started to snow during her adventure, so Ember was graced with the lovely sight of puffy white flakes twirling to the ground. They were no less than dancers with the wind. It seemed everything there ever was could be at peace now. Despite the biting cold, the fae could never had felt so warm with the happiness that bubbled over. Time was running out for her, but she was exactly where she wanted to be. Her head came to rest against the ground and her eyes had turned towards the sky. She gazed between each lovely branch and watched the beautiful world around her. After moments, Ember felt her eyes begin to close as if she was exhausted by miles of running. The lids cast darkness over her, but she didn’t mind so much anymore. Instead she focused on her breathing and her heart as it continued to beat slowy. Beat… Beat…….Beat……….Beat………..

And then, she was gone.

RIP Healer Ember
