The Devil Knows Me So Well (Ariste) Empty

Crisp autumn air was something Altair enjoyed most out of the seasonal times, something about the warm and cold air colliding together made his heart sing. It was this time of year that Altair felt some what free from the dark chamber of his thoughts. Alone now, he knew that he could finally let his emotions free. Out among the rocks and sand, the area Altair had wandered into was quite dry and slightly warm despite the chilly morning that he had awoken to. The day was still young, and with the air still fresh with cold he had traveled out to the neutral lands in search of some quality time. He enjoyed being around the others in the pack, he had realized how much he had missed the company of others but there was still a little bit of loner in him. Coming to a complete stop the large brute stared up at the rocks, his eyes following the dark red crevices. His eyes traveled to a large rock jutting out from the side of a path, and on the end of it sat a small tree just off to the side. The tree had clung to life, it's leaves still green and fresh as if it was the first day of spring. Altair had decided to pay the small tree a visit, and made his way over to the rocky path that steadily made it's way up the mountain side.

A little exercise never hurt anyone... He thought as he began to climb the steep path. Something he had not noticed before climbing were the caves that dotted the mountain side like black gaping wounds. He had come upon his first one, and his fur stood on end with warning. The scent that came out of the cave was not of one that made him feel easy. However, he pressed on having a feeling that the creature was no longer there. He had heard of this mountain, Cathedral mountain in small snippets of conversation. He had heard something about poisonous snakes, and at this time of year they would be looking for places to begin hiding for the winter. Snakes were not something he feared, he had often encountered them as a loner. It was how silent they were that had almost gotten him in trouble a few times. In the daylight he would only have to worry about them sunning, but what made him feel slightly nervous was the fact that he had heard the whispering of Puma's on this mountain side. Catching one and killing it would be quite a feat, and something that Altair could feel a challenge in but he wasn't about to go search one out. It was not his mission to come out here and execute a puma. No, he was here to be alone. He didn't expect any other wolves to be out, he had gone out initially telling the others to hunt and perhaps train by climbing. Other than that it was completely quiet. Calm and relaxed for the first time in a while Altair made it to the tree and took a seat, the breeze swaying and the air bright. Closing his electric blue eyes, he relaxed.

PostSubject: Re: The Devil Knows Me So Well (Ariste) The Devil Knows Me So Well (Ariste) Icon_minitimeOctober 25th 2015, 10:36

Ariste was the same. She was doing the same things, every day. She felt the same, looked the same. The only thing different was the seasons. Crisp, curled up leaves were plucked from their home, falling to the ground to dry up. Animals scurried about for their food. Once again, the leaves were turning bright reds and yellows, which would soon fade into earthy, more subdued rust reds and oranges. Every other step she took made the leaves under her paws crackle. The was cool, biting into her skin, mocking her of the soon-to-come Winter - or perhaps, warning her, she didn't know. All she knew was she was glad to finally be free of the merciless heat, that forced her to seek shelter where it was cool, and hydrate herself frequently. But now overheating was over save for the few rare, hot days that occurred occasionally. As per usual, Ariste was up early, earlier than most others in her pack. Simply giving the borders a brief check, she exited the Packlands, instead venturing into the neutral territories.  Muscles rippling, she stretched, before taking off at a casual run. Not a full out sprint, but enough to cause some strain in her legs. Soon enough, she would reach the territory called Cathedral Mountain. The familiar feeling of smooth leaves underpaw had been replaced. Now, she could feel particles of dust clinging to her pads, and with each inhalation, the fine powder was sucked into her lungs, and nostrils, tickling them. She had been here before - she'd met an Avagos male by the name of Finnick here. She would have almost considered him pleasant, compared to even her own packmates, but she hadn't heard about him, or seen him since that one meeting. Meeting him again would actually be something she welcomed, but it didn't seem that that was going to happen, as it had been seasons.

Slowing to an almost stop, she surveyed her surroundings, before continuing on. Using her hind legs to propel herself forward, she leapt a platform up. Easily she navigated the Mount, slim figure slithering through the gaps just large enough for a wolf her size, and up the steep incline. As she climbed, a song rose in her throat, before she began singing it aloud, while continuing to climb.
"Don't fret precious, I'm here... step away from the cave mouth... and go back to sleep." Her voice echoed the eerie tone quietly, as she continued singing. "Safe from pain, and truth, and choice... and other poison Devils, see, they don't give a damn about you, like I do.." Her voice was sweet, only adding another factor to the already sinister song.
"I'll be the one to protect you from, your enemies, and all your demons.
I'll be the one to protect you from, a will to survive, and a voice of reason.
I'll be the one to protect you from, your enemies, and your choices, son,"

Clambering up a final ledge, her song came to an end.
"They're one and the same - I must isolate you
Isolate and save you from yourself..."
She gave pause when she saw a still, black form laying down, eyes closed. Within a couple beats of silence, she could recognize his form, even without being able to see his intoxicating cerulean eyes. A dark, foreboding chuckle escaped from blackened lips. "Hello, Altair." She commented, consciously standing taller. She stood at the same height as him, and now coming uninjured, she knew it would be more of a fair fight. And now, she knew what he could do. An indignant glint shone in her eyes, like a spark falling into a pool of gasoline, and bursting into flames. Her gaze was calm, showing no anger, almost glee at the potential of tearing him apart now that she was well. But of course, it was all reigned in within carefully controlled expression, as her head tilted slightly. "Perhaps I can tell you that story, now that we're out of the rain."

A dry breeze caressed Altair's loose fur on his rump, neck and back bits of dust and sand blowing against him. His light blue eyes remained closed, in a relaxed state. While he was resting, his ears twitched taking in many sounds. Breathing in, he finally opened his eyes the bright sun making him blink. The dusty area was quite warm, even for fall and with it being so warm he could enjoy the sunlight and not feel over heated. One thing about being dark colored was the constant struggle with heat and hydration. He was still relaxing, feeling most of his stress and anger melting away. Most of the time he had a lot of pent up, anger and stress just from his past but also from the duties he wanted to do. He felt like just being a warrior was plain, he wanted to show others that he was valuable enough to do something more. With a snort, the large black brute rolled onto his side, stretching out his sore muscles. While laying on his side, he heard something in the distance, and his ears pricked a bit at the noise. What is that? He thought, and strained his hearing.

With his eyes closed he could hear the singing, and behind his eyes he saw a beautiful she-wolf, almost like a goddess coming to him. It was pleasant to hear, and while he thought about the soft voice singing, he didn't know what to expect. Her words almost had a hint of sadness, and he could tell whoever was singing that they were getting closer. Although, it didn't bother him, it was a nice change from the barking or retorts he usually got. He swished his tail enjoying the soft voice before it stopped. He figured he either saw him or she was just done. It was then, that the scent washed around him like an ugly stain up on his fur. His blue eyes opened to stare right at Ariste, he saw the dark smirk on her lips as she spoke his name. Sitting up, his fur slightly matted and dusty orange from the dirt below him, he watched the dark pelted female in silence. "Perhaps you could, I mean what's the harm in a little story?" He commented to her, flicking his tail dust and debris scattered down the rocks as he did. "How are you this fine day, Ariste?." He questioned, putting some emphasis on her name. Yes, he had remember her name, how could he not have? He had fought her, gotten closer to her. He knew her, and would not be forgetting her any time soon. "Your singing is lovely." He commented after a few moments, wondering how she would react to that.

Auriferous eyes followed the male actions, as he moved to sit up.  He did not seem at all alarmed, and she as fine with that.  Shifting, she lowered her rump to the ground.  Her ear twitched, as she heard the distant all of a bird, still staring down at Altair.  She waited to see if he would actually get up, as her tail swished, wrapping around her thigh, long tassel coming to lay across her paws.  She chuckled as he seemed to continue the running joke in their odd relationship of sorts.  She inhaled slowly, snorting as he asked how she was.  "I was having a pleasant day, and it just got better, now that I've found you."  She replied coolly.  She didn't care how he took that to mean - frankly, it was widely obvious what she meant by that, evidenced by the malicious grin that appeared on her maw.  Quickly, though, the grin disappeared and she went back to her stoic, indifferent look.  That faltered for a moment when he commented on her voice, but for less than a second, and if you blinked, you'd have missed it.  She didn't say thank you - why would she?  But she didn't consider her voice attractive, deep and slightly raspy, and especially not her singing.  But perhaps she as being made a fool of, he was being subtly sarcastic.

Deciding to ignore it, she rolled her shoulders, sitting regally, her spine straight. She had placed herself specifically so her lithe form would block out the sunlight that had been shining on Altair's eyes, his only view being her. She felt the light beating down on her back, far warmer than Erenyx's territories during fall, but not uncomfortable, as Summer had been. No, it was just nice, and she could see now why cats favoured curling up in the sun.
"You seem to have something on your coat. Shall I clean it off for you, or are you capable?" She commented idly, sarcasm tainting her voice, as per usual. Falling silent, she waited for him to respond, body tensing in case he should attack.

Altair wasn't tense, no he just sat watching as she took her own seat her long tail curling around to rest on her ebony colored paws. He had decided to stay laying down, at least partially. He was sitting up slightly just in case she were to do anything but he didn't feel like she would attack. No, she seemed calm for the most part. Erenyx wolves were tricky however, and he had no idea was going on in that pretty little head of hers. He flicked his tail at her words, and shook his head a slight cough of a laugh came from his throat. "Better now that you have seen me? I would think you would not enjoy to see my company miss Ariste. Considering as I was the one that got away." He smirked at her, relaxing his tense muscles once more as he laid down. Her grin had faltered slightly as had commented on her voice, and she made no reply. Perhaps it was not often that wolves heard her singing. He wasn't sure if she would accept the compliment or not, but she hadn't bit off his ear so he figured she at least would remember something kind he had said.

Ignoring it seemed her best option, and she had which was not a surprise to the dark brute. While their first meeting had been slightly unpleasant he did get to see some of what she was like even when angry. She was different, that was for sure. He blinked quietly as she move in the sunlight, giving herself an almost goddess like appearance. As she moved into the sun, he saw her outline more clearly as well as the fire in her quiet yet deadly eyes. The warmth he had been enjoying was gone, and with the stiff breeze rolling through the mountain, it made his tail twitch with cold. Blinking in slight surprise, he sat up a bit, narrowing his eyes at her. "You would want to clean my coat? Is this the part where you sit down and share stories with me?" He questioned, a slight grin on his lips as he glanced to his dark coat noticing the smudges of dust. "Being dirty is what most of us are incapable of stopping, but I don't go around hoping every she-wolf notices me." With that, he stood on his paws and stepped away from her. He shook his pelt, the dust blowing away in the wind before he sat down looking to her. "Better?"

Her gaze would never waver, looking down at Altair in a mildly condescending manner.  Her previously malicious, if mischievous look had gone cold, no emotions residing in them any longer.  He didn't seem very fazed, however, casually still lying down, content as ever.  She seemed to have no reaction to his smirk a blank, unamused stare remaining on her expression.  She snorted at his comment of being 'the one that got away'.  Instead, she backed up, and her eyes moved to gaze over the edge of the cliff.  Beautiful eyes observed the even more beautiful view obtained from being up so high.  Seeing the canopy of trees and foliage, having everything that went on below her under surveillance.  Trained muscles rippled as she smoothed her fur, feeling the warmth hitting her back, like a comforting tongue caressing her.  Shaking her head, she stretched her shoulders and arched her back, a few cracks resonated in her ears from her spine. Quietly, her head turned back to Altair as he finished speaking.

"Of course. How about that of the three bears?" She replied sarcastically. She didn't say anything as he spoke about no trying to impress every she-wolf. Watching as the particles of dust were carried away on the wind, eyes fixated back on Altair as he sat down, narrowing slightly. "Much. And what, has no one in your pack caught your eye?" She questioned. She truthfully didn't care, but she wasn't leaving. She'd climbed up here, and it was too bad for him if he was here first. She would stay until she fancied climbing higher, whether he liked it or not.

The wind ruffled his fur as he sat just on the tip of the cliff, his claws gripping the edge silently. He had glanced to her as she spoke in her sarcastic tone, but did not respond to it. His mind was wandering, as it often would. He had met Ariste one time before, and it had ended in a fight. It had not been a long fight, but they had sparred and he had made it away with his prize. He felt as if he had been able to fight longer, even with the rain pouring down upon them, he probably would have killed her. He knew that she was more battle ready than him but she was also inclined to kill him no matter the cost. She didn't care about his life, or at least that's what he thought. He knew that she was apart of Erenyx, and with the evil tyrant of a an alpha...perhaps she could change. Glancing back over her, his blue eyes cloudy. I doubt it. He thought to himself, his coat fluffing up with the breeze that wafted past them. He flicked his tail again, surprised by her words. He didn't expect such words to come tumbling from her slender maw, but they had. Turning away from the cliff, he spun around to face her before taking a seat once more. Had any wolves caught his attention? He had friends, Sieglinde being one. (Gah i hope I didn't spell that wrong). But had any of them actually caught his eye? "Not in particular. I am friends with someone, and she is very sweet. But I don't think I am the right material for her. I don't know. Why do you ask?" He questioned, stifling up and going quiet. He was tempted to turn it on her and ask her the same question, but he had a doubt that none caught his eyes. But perhaps the alpha? I'm sure he has many paws grasping for him this season.. He thought watching Ariste silently as he waited for her reply.
