Fish are Difficult Empty

With the rest of the day off from his duties as Apprentice Healer, Kiv decided to go exploring around the area inside the pack’s lands so he would know the area better. Also, perhaps he might find some good places for collecting herbs, who knew? With no idea where to go or where he should go or even where he wanted to go, Kiv did what he was best at and followed his nose, letting nothing but his own curiosity guide him. The sheer size of the pack’s territory had not really sunk in, just quite yet, and he was somewhat surprised that he just kept walking and walking on and on without coming to the edge. Of course, the linear distance was not really all that impressive, it was just that Kiv’s path tended to be rather circuitous.

Eventually, though, he smelled a source of water. At first, his heart rate quickened, but then he remembered his swimming lessons with Chiara and decided that now was as good a time as any to practice so he sniffed the air carefully for a moment and then dashed off in the direction of the water. Soon enough, he found himself on the edge of a pool at the bottom of a small series of cascades. The falling water fascinated him to no end and, before he knew it, he had dove into the water and was paddling around in the pool. A flash of silver caught his eye, though, and he peered down into the cool water. A few small fish swam around, somewhat panicked by the wolf that had just jumped practically on top of them. Kiv gave a playful bark before pushing himself underwater in an attempt to catch one of them. He remembered Chiara simply jumping into the water to catch a fish and suddenly came to appreciate just how much more complicated it must have been for her to actually have caught one like that. Those things were really fast!

He came back to the surface, spitting water out of his mouth and peered down at the fish swimming beneath him. Bound and determined to catch one of them, he dove underneath the water again, snapping ineffectually after the fish in the pool.

Aurora wanted to burst out laughing from her hiding spot in the brush near the sparkling waters the small male played in. It was was his bark that first made her chuckle, how he acted like a pup at the waters edge. Aurora could tell that he was young but pegging his age would be hard for her. Most of the time she didn't have to guess, the first conversation usually made her realize who was older and younger, age was not a big deal for her. Then her eyes caught glimpse of him spewing water everywhere and she lost control. Fish were once hard for her to catch when she was younger, how fast they glide through the water, and then eventually slip out of your jaws once you think you have them. Fishing wasn't her strongest feat but she could catch a fish is she needed too. At this point she felt it was time to make herself known and teach the young male how to fish. Someone had to do it, might as well be her.

As she stood up, her fluffy coat shook free the loose articles of nature that hung to her pelt, and she bark once to the male to inform him of her arrival. Upon her walk Aurora couldn't help but think of the future and her own pups. She envisioned have 3 pups, two males and one female. Her brute-like ways would be more of the father role in her female relationship, so teaching her boys to fish would be the honor. Teaching this male to fish would be the honor and a test of her own ways on parenting and being a friend. *Bravery.* Her voice echoed in her head as she padded over to the waters edge. With a side step she placed her paws into the water, just up to her dew claw, and looked upon the lithe male. "Hello dear, you seem to be having a bit of trouble trying to catch a fish. May I assist you and teach you a few tricks?" Aurora looked at him, bracing herself for his response. The cool water felt wonderful upon her paws, the soothing sensation put her toes at rest as the soft mud squished between them. Closing her eyes she took a deep breath of the fresh air and the smell of the water. Fish bouncing into her legs every now and then, her eyes opened beginning to track the largest one for his lesson should he choose yes.

Kiv came back up to the surface, once more emptying his mouth of the water. “Almost,” he muttered, once more looking down at the fish. It didn’t seem like doing this would really be all that difficult. They didn’t even have any legs! Honestly, how hard could it really be to catch something that didn’t even have legs? Well, as it turns out, pretty hard.

Just as he was about to dive back under the water, he heard a female bark from quite close by. Aborting his dive at the last second, he flailed around for a moment before getting back into a stable position and looking up on the bank to see a rather beautiful white female approaching. He cocked his ears in an attentively friendly position, not even considering how goofy he must look with one ear cocked to the side and completely sopping wet. “Hello, miss,” he greeted, since he wasn’t really sure what rank she was. At her offer to teach him how to fish, he lowered his head and ears slightly, a little bit embarrassed. “If you have time to teach me, I would like that. Mostly I was just playing around, but I still can’t catch any of them. They’re so fast.” He climbed out of the pool and moved a short distance away from the white female before facing her, so that she would not get splashed, and shook the water from his fur. “My name’s Kiv. Apprentice to Healer Creek,” he introduced himself as he moved closer so that he could watch how she caught fish.

Aurora listened to him and was fond of his personality, how innocent he was, and how he was shy about his new presence to life and figuring things out along the way. "I wouldn't have offered if I didn't have time. I can go back to my resting spot and continue to watch you make a mockery of yourself if you wish." Her laughter rang out and her chest bounced from laughing so hard. "It would be my honor to teach you how to catch these bastards. It's a little difficult at first and take practice to get good at it. What I recommend, what works best for me, is to take a deep breath and hold your position until the come right in between your jaws and you clamp shut and pull out of the water. Do you follow? Okay now watch." A stern voice followed the motherly voice she originally spoke with.

Inhaling deeply Aurora held her breath and placed her muzzle below the water line and waited. Leaving her eyes above the blue liquid to scan below for the fish at her feet. Slowly she moved her head to adjust properly to get the best advantage for an attack. Just when she thought she had no more air left in her lungs her jaws snapped shut, the feeling of water squished from her lips and she pulled the bass from the shallow waters and tossed it onto the land less than 5 feet from where they waded. "It's not hard, just takes time. Hold until you can't hold anymore and if you can't come up and try again." Glancing upon the little one she went to retrieve her fish and pushed him further up onto the land so he wouldn't be able to flop back into the water. From the shore she watched the male, "I am Aurora by the way, I forget sometime to return introduction to myself. Warrior to Alpha Azul."

Kiv’s ears flattened slightly when she said that he was making a mockery of himself. Why did she care what he did when he was having fun? It wasn’t until her laughter had begun to die away that he realized that she might have been just joking. Even so, it wasn’t a very nice joke. He nodded his head when she asked if he understood her instructions. That was certainly different than the way that Chiara had done it. He wondered which one worked best. He had to admit that it was kind of funny to watch this otherwise dignified female standing with her face in the water and mouth wide open.

But, a few moments later, this odd looking technique was justified as the female brought up a fairly decently sized fish and dropped it on the ground. It was bigger than the fish that Chiara had caught. “I don’t know how long I can hold my breath. Won’t going up and down over and over scare all the fish?” he asked, watching the female’s catch flop ineffectually on the grass. He did feel bad for it. Hopefully the female, who just now introduced herself as Warrior Aurora, was hungry. He would hate for such a magnificent creature to die just so he could learn how to catch more of them. “It’s nice to meet you, Warrior Aurora,” Kiv said, dipping his head slightly. No one had yet to explain to him where exactly in the rankings he stood as an Apprentice Healer, so he decided it would be a whole lot safer to treat everyone as though they were over him until he figured out where exactly he stood. “Do you eat a lot of fish? My friend, Warrior Chiara said that she at a whole bunch of them one time and it made her coat really shiny.
