Adventure. Such an interesting yet foreign thing to a normal wolf like Paislee. It was the same thing everyday; wake up, eat, train, eat, train, eat, then go to sleep. She had never done anything really out of the ordinary, unless you count taking down the boar during the pack meeting, and even then she had immense help and wouldn't have been able to do it on her own. That was the strange thing. Paislee often caught herself thinking about Zephyr. Why did he let her kill the boar, instead of taking the glory for herself. And why did she jump in without hesitation to take the spotlight? Why was she so selfish? That was when her thoughts turned back to herself, and all of a sudden, she'd find herself wondering how she had gotten to that train of thought... retracing the tracks to get back to the first station, and surprise! she found Zephyr.

But, today, she was tired of the same old, same old. She was tired of thinking about males because of the season, and she was definitely tired of daydreaming about her temporary training partner without a good reason for it. She barely knew him anyway... What was the point of it all? But no, today she would forget all of that. She was going to head past the borders of her own territory and get to the Neutrals. Somebody had to be out and about today... There were four packs, after all, the chances of not meeting anybody were slim.

So she woke up and ate, but instead of going to train, she went to the boundaries of her pack, then leaping into a fast lope across the terrain of the Neutrals. It wasn't long before she found herself in a new place, one that was so thick with fog she couldn't see more than a few feet in front of her. She wasn't sure quite how she had ended up there, but all that mattered was the present; the here and now. Don't find the tracks, Paislee, she told herself.

So she explored, very carefully to make sure she wouldn't step in a hole and break her paw or run into a rock and scrape her flank. No, she was very cautious and easy-going, but despite her efforts, it wasn't enough.

She heard it before she saw it.

Crack.

Her eyes snapped to her paws, and she saw the split in the rock under her. She looked forward and found that there wasn't any surface in front of her either.

She was on a cliff.

And the cliff was about to break away underneath her own paws.

Gentle steps. || Quiet Voice. || Beautiful thoughts.

Stalking is not a word Fel would have used to describe her actions at the time, but in retrospect, it was nothing less than this. She had been strategically scouting some area for her own purposes; this area under questioning is not pertinent to the situation that she found herself in. In fact, the only reason the brutish fae followed the smaller wolf was because she came across her in the fog. The other had not noticed her, and Fel had barely seen the air sway to signal another’s presence. But she had caught sight of it, call that celestial or divine intervention if you must. Following the other, Fel had kept at a certain distance where she could just see the grey suggestion of a form through the white mist, that is, until she finally closed the distance between them. The other fae, for the scent was clearly that of a fae, had been stepping around rocks very carefully it seemed. Fel intended to provoke a conversation and see what she was up to. The lighter creature seemed too deliberate and could be planning something of potentially threatening diplomacy. The two had wandered near a promontory, one closer to danger than the other. It was then that Fel heard the earth snap and break ahead.

How was it that Fel had sought the answers to questions not yet posed but now found herself deciding upon the fate of this creature? There was a slight cost-benefit analysis that flew through her head. Step too far, and they both die as the rock crumbles beneath their combined weight – eliminate a rival, but also eradicate the potential for an ally. And Fel would have let her die, for that was the most reasonable answer for her. The decision process took about the duration of a blink of an eye… but at that moment, she saw someone else – someone shorter, more muscular, and with a warmer coat. Before she knew it, the beta was rushing to save the stranger, reaching far for a firm grip on her scruff with her maw and almost rearing with an effort to throw her back onto the safe ground just as the earth fell down to hell. Her paws were planted on more stable ground, but the move was still risky.

Slowly then, she backed away from the still crumbling edge, breathing heavily. She was definitely too old to do that sort of spontaneous action too often. Maw gaping in rhythmic increments, Fel swallowed and looked over the edge. And finally, she stole a glance to the damsel in distress, her lifeless pools of ice reflecting an unsurprising amount of nothing. Similarly, she said nothing and, still panting, turned away to walk a little farther into the zone of sure safety.

The snow begins to fall gently as the winds pick up their speed. Should you find shelter? Or should you seek the companionship of one another?

She was honestly too terrified to notice the shadow suddenly appearing behind her. She yelped as she found her scruff being latched onto by strong jaws, but the pain was nothing compared to the fear coursing through her veins, almost as much of the emotion as there was blood. The whole thing occurred faster than a few seconds, but it felt like an eternity; everything in slow motion as she was thrown backwards onto the more stable ground, and her wide eyes watched as the rock she was just standing on moments ago fell away into the dark, foggy abyss below. Her bright blue gaze snapped to the stranger. Without thinking, Paislee launched herself at the female, diving away from the edge. Paislee hid her face in the fae's shoulder, nuzzling the stranger. Terror was the cause of this action, otherwise she would've not been so open. But snuggling this stranger seemed to be the only thing she could do to thank her savior. Well, not the only thing, but at the moment on this cliff, in a way, it was.

"You saved my life!" Paislee murmured into the black pelt of the larger fae. Suddenly, the small, gray warrior was aware of the small snowflakes drifting down and mixing with her coat. She glanced up at the fae, smelling of the pack from the South, was it? She couldn't remember. She shivered. Winter had come on strong this year, but still Paislee had not grown used to it.

"Uh... do you want to go somewhere warmer? There must be some way I can repay you for saving me," Paislee insisted. "Perhaps I can grab something for us to eat sometime, since there doesn't seem to be any visible prey in such a drab and dark place... plus with the weather moving in..." Realizing she was babbling, the silver warrior shut up. How would this stranger react to Paislee's sudden... attraction? Was that the right word to describe her actions? Paislee stayed quiet, awaiting a negative or positive reaction.

Panting, she looked over her shoulder at the spot she was just standing. Her vision blurred, she could scarcely see the scenery, but she could easily make out the border between the stability and the void. Fel inhaled sharply, feeling something press up against her forcefully and then nuzzle her. She looked down, blinking between the images of two canines. It was bizarre to say the least. But there was little to do, really. To the smaller, real wolf’s reply, she rumbled thoughtfully, “No, I don’t believe so…” And yet, how was it not? She had pulled this stranger’s body from certain death to safety. “But I suppose it ended up that way.” Fel blinked, still dizzy. Her heart was racing from fear for another. The entire situation was baffling to her, and she did not appreciate feeling disoriented.

She listened on to the smaller fae’s babbling, surely quickened by terror, while making her own breathing slow down to let her old heart rest. Raising her gaze to their surroundings, she could barely make out the walls of rock. But she could feel her new companion shivering, and it was true, they needed to find a place to stay until the rising storm weakened. The raven wolf lowered her head to the other, commenting calmly, “I cannot see straight right now… So yes, find us a cave. There should be some formation around here… The site is very irregular. Just watch your step.” She stood up a little taller, raising her voice against the wind, “Go on. I will follow.”

The black fae had agreed to seek refuge. Paislee glanced around, searching for a promising trail. Icy eyes searching the foggy and dangerous landscape, the silver Warrior had no such luck. Best to just find it along the way. Carefully placing her shaky paws one at a time in front of her and gently testing the rock, Paislee tried to make quick work of her journey and was mostly successful, although her cautiousness was beyond obvious. She imagined how pathetic she must've looked to the other fae, but Paislee would much rather be careful and alive than bold and dead. Better safe than sorry, her mother used to say. Those words used to not make much sense, but never in her life have or will that phrase be more clear than they were in that very moment.

Still trembling, even though they were far from the cliff now, Paislee finally noticed that the wind had died down. Something was obscuring the wild gusts from directly assaulting the odd pair. Glancing up, she found a large rock wall nearby, and she (still carefully) padded toward it. Her steps were taken as if everyone would be her last, but she finally found the wall. Taking up a new direction, the short, silvery ghost continued on her way in the fog. Nothing more than a shadow--or maybe the one that was hopefully still behind her--Paislee carefully placed her shoulder against the wall and moved forward yet again.

Just as she was about to give up and move away from the wall, it suddenly fell away from her. Paislee yelped, falling, sure that she had been stupid enough to fall of yet another cliff.

Mixed emotions flooded through her when she hit the ground though. Relief, remaining fear and adrenaline, and even a little annoyance as a sharp pain lanced through her side. As she got to her feet, she beamed. The cave was found.

[OOC: It's tiny, but I wanted to get it up before I lost all my muse again.]

The brutish wolf grunted softly against each battering of the wind, until she realized that the wind had finally ceased. When had it ceased? She looked about, then sped up to catch her guide’s tail. Her waning vision, however, made the little flicker of fur difficult to catch, and so she tried to rely on the stability of her own legs and the general idea of where to go. After a little while, the silvery fae fell away into darkness with a yelp, landing on hard rock with a thud. The two sounds had not been so far apart, so she concluded that the drop was not far. Fel went over to the cave entrance, calling inside as she descended, “Charming little fae, where have you landed? Are you hurt?” But as she walked downward, her paw stumped against a rock she had failed to see and her massive body was sent down as well. She landed with a pained grunt right beside the other, growling something about her useless vision and shaking her head violently. After a moment, she sat up with some dignity and looked to the fae, or what could be seen of her in the limited light. “I suppose this will have to do. I never caught your name, and as I caught the rest of you, I might as well know it too. I am beta Fel of Agavos.”

Paislee shivered as the other fae's pelt brushed against hers. Black on silver. So this fae was a beta? Of Avagos? She had heard a little about that pack, led by a used-to-be misfit rogue. She had heard that the pack itself was made of very diverse wolves. But what did she know, she had never been told directly by one from that pack. "My name's Paislee. I'm a Warrior of Pyrvanthros."

"I can't tell you how grateful I am, miss Fel," Paislee said. The dim lighting of the cave was nice in a way, kind of helpful from the whiteness of the storm. The change had been drastic, but her eyes quickly adjusted. Everything was hushed, due to the falling powder outside. She found snow fascinating for that very reason, how it made everything quiet. She looked back to the other fae, icy blue hues meeting the others' almost matching colored eyes. She felt tired, despite the frightening event of almost dying not that far before. Paislee's eyelids drooped, and she fell to the floor in an exhausted heap. "Cuddle with me?" Paislee mumbled, completely out of it. Her eyes shut and she began to drift off, only to catch the others final movements, before she fell into a deep sleep.

Paislee. A simple, possibly useless warrior of Pyrvanthros. She could hear Chiara’s voice in her mind, rattling on about how every wolf is important or some other dimwit philosophy that the pack was founded upon. Her icy eyes watched the silvery heap of fur fall over and call to her, which snapped her mind out of its mockery. With a bit of a grunt, still aching from everything, Fel rose and came to settle around the smaller body.

The brutish wolf’s ears swiveled around for several minutes while her nostrils flared dramatically, each sense searching for signs of other life in the cave. But no one was there. Feeling a bit tired herself, she turned her snout to her unlikely companion, and began to softly groom her back and scruff. There were intervals at which she thought the pure fur turned a different, tawny hue, but then her right senses would return. Fel huffed softly, abandoning the task and settling her head on the shoulders of the other. Slowly, her eyelids began to droop like curtains, eventually fading out reality and letting her body sleep into the deep oceans of sleep. That night she dreamed of a particularly painful memory, and throughout her dream, pulled Paislee closer to her with a possessive, protective growl. "Not a hair would be harmed on her body. Not a drop of her blood would be spilt," Fel mumbled to herself.
